The Old Man and his Honey Wine ~ Joi
| style: short mythical story |
|
The Old Man and his Honey Wine
|
There once was an old man who loved
honey and wine,
He’d stroll through the woods each day to see what he could
find.
Little did he know about the rose or rock he tripped over
each day,
”Ouch”, he said, “These are the silly things that turn you
grey”.
The honey was abundant, yet he still searched for that
illusive wine.
He dreamed of pyramids of fire, a constant dowsing of his
mind.
One day, circles appeared in the sky, and red wine began to
fall.
A loop in the cosmic rope had been toed to the end of the
call.
He screamed out, “Why do you only give this red rain?”
”Where is the city, is it not darker in the Senegal’s vein?”
His cries echoed through the forest trees in distress.
Molted honey was abundant, yet this was his mess.

He continued his journey for the wine in the emerald eye,
All the while slurping the honey that flowed from the river
nigh.
The do in his dow went around and around the bend.
Honey was occasionally circling the diamond within.
In the hollow of night he saw a glimmer of light.
It felt like a subtle monition around the butterfly wings before
flight.
All of a sudden, the earth below rose up clear to his height.
A giant talking rock man had arrived, and seemed ready to fight.
He professed to the rock, “Have all my honey and there is surely
wine”.
This was met with a mighty groan, “Have you lost your mind.”
The rock man said, “You are on the wrong road to find the rose.”
He became intaglio for a moment and replied, “What rose do you
propose?”
The rock man replied, “The strong are useless as this is also
weak.”
He froze in position as the giant stones rumbled and creaked.
”Where is the fragile more powerful than the strong” he
responded.
”It is the way you feel the tree top my friend and the rose will
not be confounded.”
He called out, “Are you going to crush me, must I go around
you?”
The rock man blurted out, “I come after the rain; it is for
you.”
And the rocks began to melt into the ground right before his eye
as he jumped down to the ground to kiss the earth man goodbye.
Now every moment, his heart filled with the water of life,
And the flood of white in the keep was flowing straight out in
strife.
He now moved through the forest like the clingstone in the wind.
The honey was not fooled, and his life was about to begin.
