Psyche is represented by the spirited soul in some definitions.
It would be better defined as the mediated triune function of
the cortex, limbic, and carnal mind. In Greek mythology, it
is thought to represent a woman, but this is misleading. The
woman has joined with the man, and the
man Eros, represents the
masculine fear and knowledge, which is the [prefrontal] cortex,
and the right side of the brain.
Aphrodite was jealous of the feminine [left brain]
woman, and
Aphrodite's reptilian
nature was overcome. This is clearly
telling us about the evolution of the mind from infancy to
adulthood, and the resulted interpretation of reality.
The bonding of the
spirit side and
soul side overcome the
seduction and a psyche is born with
the help of the man and woman representations.
